Here's a nice rear view of the CSXT 3185, a GE 'Super Seven' designated by GE as a B30-7R. She started her life as a U23B at Erie PA. She was ordered for the Monongahelia Railroad to work in coal service in Penna. The Monon became part of Conrail in 1993 and carried over to CSX.
In 1993, Monon was forced into Conrail and brought her U23Bs with her. They underwent rebuilding in 1979 at GE's Montreal Locomotive Works. A revolutionary rebuilding incorporated the forthcoming Dash 8 design and technology. All riding on Blomberg trucks and rated at 2250 horsepower.
Here's a rear view of CSXT GE B23-7 #3175 in the enginehouse track at Readville #1 Yard. The poles are holding the shore-power cables. Which, when plug in, allow the engines to be shut down when the temperature is below 45 degrees. Helps keep the neighbors happy!
Looking underneath the 3175, as it is tied down on the enginehouse track at Readville, I spot a cooling water leak. It's too warm (70) for the engine to dumping her water. Further investigation revealed a leak in a pipe, just abft of the fuel tank. She leaked for 3 days.
CSXT 5836 is a General Electric B36-7. Here's a view of this husky, handsome 3600hp GE as she idles in Readville Yard 01/03/01. She came in on WARE1 which picked up WARE2's cars from Framingham after she outlawed at 5:00 am 01/02/01 Trains reports CSX purging some Dash 7s
WARE1 begins to classify the 69 cars that she just brought into Yard #1 after retreiving them from Framingham. Doing the honors are CSXT Gp40-2 #6213 (Wrecked at Readville 10/99) and 6214. It's too late in the day for RE1 to do her own job to Norwood and Walpole.
Here's a closer shot of CSXT GP40-2s #6213 ans 6214 as they shove a cut of loaded cars east, uphill in Readville's #1 Yard. 6000hp is the order of this clear, sunny and cold (31F) January 3rd afternoon. The Amtrak NEC catenary is visible to the left of 6214.
I love the road number on this particular CSXT B36-7. The 58 for her class (B36-7) and 36 for her horsepower (3600). She's parked on the enginehouse track in Readville's #1 Yard. I don't know what the MW sticker stands for. Possibly a vacation spot?
A GFRR, former Southern Railways, 58' boxcar, loaded with tons of kitty litter burned at Readville's #1 yard over the weekend of 01/15/01. Firefighters from Boston's Engine 49 and Dedham's Engine 3 were dispatched. The result of the fire is seen here.
Here's another view of the GFRR boxcar at Readville, once loaded with kitty litter for the Stop and Shop Warehouse at Readville. The Old black Lincoln "staff Car" seen to the left, is the "Train Watching Vette's" winter replacement
